  4.     DIED. Alan Wiggins, 32, fleet-foot outfielder and second
  5. baseman whose use of drugs cut short a promising career; of
  6. tuberculosis and other illnesses his family attributed to his
  7. substance-abuse problems; in Los Angeles. In his seven seasons
  8. with the San Diego Padres and Baltimore Orioles, Wiggins batted
  9. .259 and stole 242 bases. In 1984 his five stolen bases in a
  10. game tied the modern National League record. Wiggins underwent
  11. drug rehabilitation three times, and was suspended indefinitely
  12. in 1987.
